When I first arrived in the United States, everything felt unfamiliar and overwhelming. I was beginning a new life far from my home country and did not know where to start. The Francophone Africans Alliance welcomed me, listened to my needs, and helped make that difficult transition much easier.
FAA supported me in finding stable housing and meeting essential needs during my first days in the country. They also guided me through important systems — opening bank accounts, enrolling my children in school, understanding health insurance, and managing daily life in the United States.
One of my greatest concerns was how to use my education and professional experience from my home country to find employment here. FAA took the time to understand my background, helped me adapt my résumé to U.S. standards, guided me through credential evaluation and training requirements, and prepared me for job interviews. Their support helped me move closer to working in my field and becoming financially independent.
Language was another major barrier. Through FAA's free English classes, I found a welcoming place to practice speaking, improve my pronunciation, and build confidence. The classes helped me communicate with others and reminded me that I was not alone.
What I appreciated most was not only the practical assistance, but also the patience, encouragement, and emotional support. Today, I am becoming more independent, more confident, and better integrated into my community. I am deeply grateful for FAA's dedication and kindness. Their work makes a real difference for people beginning a new life in the United States.
